The main resorts include the cosmopolitan town of Brighton, West Sussex which is only an hour by train from London, with its beaches, splendid pier, shops, cafes, restaurants, Regency architecture notably the Royal Pavilion it is a great place to spend some time. For a fantastic view of the city, the coastline and surrounding countryside take a ride 450 feet up in the glass viewing pod of the British Airways i360.

Eastbourne is the largest of the resorts on the Sussex coast, it became popular during Victorian times and was well planned and developed by two prominent landowners; the 7th Duke of Devonshire and Carew Davis Gilbert. Today the long promenade backed by stately Victorian seafront hotels, a theatre and beautiful flower gardens is a lovely place to stop and enjoy the sea air.  The pier is one of the finest examples of a Victorian pier in England, Eastbourne’s iconic bandstand on the seafront, which was built in 1935, hosts over 150 outdoor events and concerts each year and is definitely worth a visit on any trip to Eastbourne.

Chichester Harbour, West Sussex is a beautiful inlet that widens from a narrow entrance opposite East Head into a broad maze of creeks, islets and peninsulas. East Head which is owned by the National Trust is a beautiful area of natural unspoilt coastline with sand dunes and wonderful views. Around Chichester Harbour there are footpaths which follow the shoreline making it a great place for bird watching. The best way to explore the area is on foot or by bike there are also boat trips around the harbour and along the coast.
