Bowood House & Gardens, Calne, Wiltshire is a beautiful estate that has been home to the Lansdowne family for over 250 years. Bowood House is set in a stunning Capability Brown landscaped parkland. In the spring there is a magnificent display of tulips and daffodils, as well as the beautifully scented wisteria which is at its best in May. The well-known rhododendron walks, and guided tours of Lord and Lady Landsdowne’s Private Walled Gardens are offered on selected dates during April and May. www.bowood.org
Trelissick, near Truro Cornwall, has over 16 ha of woodland, formal lawns and mixed herbaceous borders with wonderful views of the River Fal. The gardens are at their best in the spring when the superb collection of Camellias flower. Penrhyn Castle Garden, Bangor, Wales is a wonderful garden to visit in the Spring. The 19th C Castle sits in 24ha of gardens and parkland. In the Victorian Walled Garden during the spring months you will find the splendid rhododendrons, camellias and a pergola covered in fuchsia. Pashley Manor Gardens, near Wadhurst, East Sussex has a spectacular Tulip Festival in late April/early May. The Garden is carpeted with over 40,000 stunning tulips. One hundred and twelve varieties of tulip are planted in colour themed garden ‘rooms’. Follow the winding paths down through the woodland to the Bluebell Walk, which is often in flower at the same time as the tulips. With daffodils and fruit trees in blossom, Pashley Manor Gardens is delightful in springtime. www.pashleymanorgardens.com
Trewidden Garden, Penzance, is a beautiful garden of over 6ha in the West of Cornwall. It is full of colour all year, but it is especially splendid during the spring months when the rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias are in full bloom. www.trewiddengarden.co.uk
