Porthleven’s history is steeped in ship building and fishing, and both continue today making it a truly Cornish place. The daily catch of fish in the harbour is used in the local restaurants and cafes. Fishermen’s cottages surround the unspoilt harbour which was built over 200 years ago. As well as going on a fishing trip, there are site seeing boat trips and kayaking trips on offer from the harbour. There is also a beach at Porthleven which is great for surfing. When the tide is out you can walk to Loe Bar which is 3.2 km away, the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall.
