Causton is a combination of towns in South Oxfordshire; Wallingford was the town that was originally used. This lovely market town is set on the banks of the River Thames and is the home of one of England’s oldest and most important castles. Now a ruin the castle was built by William the Conqueror and the gardens are a peaceful place to wander, you can also stroll along the banks of the Thames and retrace Inspector Barnaby’s steps through the town. Thame is another market town in South Oxfordshire that is Causton in the Inspector Barnaby television series. There are self guided walking tours available through this quintessential English market town. The most recent town to have been used as Causton is the delightful Henley-on-Thames. Set on the River Thames, this picturesque town is famous for its rowing regatta which takes place each summer. There is a walking trail through the town to see the places that feature in Inspector Barnaby; you can also take a Midsomer river boat cruise along the Thames.
