Powderham Castle is the home of the Earls of Devon and situated in a beautiful deer park on the River Exe near to Exeter. This castle has been built in a mix of architectural styles, but the dominant one is 18th C. There is an ornate Music Room which was designed by the famous architect, James Wyatt and a lavish Rococo Staircase. A tour through this wonderful stately home shouldn’t be missed on any group tour of South West England.
Okehampton Castle is a Norman Castle situated above the River Okement. The ruins of this dramatic castle, which was the largest in Devon, are great for exploring, the nearby woodlands are ideal for walkers and birdwatchers.
Berry Pomeroy Castle is a romantic ruin on the edge of a wooded ravine in South Devon. It was built by the Pomeroy family in the 15th C who intended it to be the most spectacular house in Devon. It was never finished and was abandoned 200 years later, ever since it has been known as ‘the most haunted house in Devon’, with reported sightings of many ghosts of the ‘White Lady’ and the ‘Blue Lady’.
