6th June 2024 is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, the small village of Mawnan Smith and the beach at Trebah Gardens played an enormous part in this heroic military operation. It was in June 1944 that 7,500 American servicemen of the 29th Infantry Division embarked on landing craft from the beach at Trebah – Polwidden Cove, heading for the Normandy Beaches.
A visit to the area at any time is always a wonderful experience, to discover the place where so many American servicemen were stationed and set off to liberate Nazi-ruled Western Europe.
