Cornwall’s Castles – Group Tour Inspiration

Your Group Travel Specialist for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Caerhays Castle is a Gothic style castle which was built in 1810 and designed by John Nash the architect of Buckingham Place. Set in over 140 acres of gardens which are famous for their magnolias, azaleas and rhododendrons the castle overlooks the beach, it has been a family home to the Williams family for over 200 years. Even though the Castle is a private home there are tours available during the Spring months when the gardens are open.

During the reign of King Henry VIII forts were built along the south coast of England to guard against invasion. The most westerly of these were the twin castles of Pendennis Castle, Falmouth and St Mawes. Protecting the Fal Estuary and the port of Falmouth, these two castles are a fine example of military architecture and visitors can explore the dungeons, barrack rooms and castle walls.

The Star Castle on the Isles of Scilly, now a luxury hotel, was built in 1593 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, for its defence from the sea. It stands on the fortified Garrison Hill to the west of Hugh Town, St Mary’s, and commands magnificent views of the sea and isles in every direction.
